Dr Brooke Harcourt has particular interest and experience in:
overweight and obesity conditions
autism spectrum and behavioural disorders
endocrine disorders including diabetes
nutrition in infancy; breastfeeding, first foods and healthy growth curve establishment
Brooke believes in working with children and their families to develop personalised and attainable nutrition goals.
Background and Experience
Brooke has a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics Honours degree, a Bachelor of Science Honours degree majoring in Endocrinology and Immunology and a PhD in Medicine from Monash University. She is currently a member of the Australian Academy of Science: National Committee Nutrition. She is a sessional lecturer and a supervisor of postgraduate medical and biomedical students at the University of Melbourne.
Brooke has current research projects at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and Royal Children’s Hospital where she is an NHMRC funded Senior Postdoctoral Fellow. Here, Brooke investigates the early origins of metabolism and endocrine disorders and is a lead investigator on the Childhood Overweight BioRepository of Australia (COBRA) Study. Brooke is nationally and internationally recognized for her research expertise in diabetes, obesity and nutrition and has presented at many conferences and published papers and text book chapters on these topics.
