CLINICAL INTERESTS
Mathew works across all areas of Gynaecology with a special interest in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. He also has a passion for Gender Affirming care, menstrual management (heavy, painful or irregular periods) and congenital anatomical differences of the genital tract.
Background and experience
Mathew graduated from a Bachelor of Medicine in 2014 and obtained his Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2025. His Obstetrics and Gynaecology training involved years spent at the Royal Women’s Hospital (Melbourne), Warrnambool Hospital and a Fellowship in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He works in public Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Bendigo Health where he has established a Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology clinic.
Mathew has published research on the cognitive biases in assessment and training and presented internationally on pathology in Paediatric Gynaecology. He teaches medical students at Monash University and performs peer education for various junior and senior doctor networks across Victoria. Education is also an important part of Mathew’s consultations. He feel’s it is important for his patients to understand the processes underlying their symptoms and the rationale for treatments. Empowering patients with an understanding of their symptoms enables a truly person-centred approach.
Mathew has particular expertise in managing conditions across a person’s life span including:
- heavy and painful periods
- delayed or precocious (early) puberty
- ovarian cysts
- vulval skin conditions and vulval pain
- congenital anomalies of the genital tract
- sexual health and contraception
